Prior to opening his Fairfax dental practice, Dr. J. Alexander Withers graduated from Woodson High School, The University of Virginia and was awarded a B.A. in Biology. After graduating from The Medical College of Virginia where he earned his D.D.S. degree, he entered a General Practice Residency in Dentistry at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He completed his residency in Periodontics at the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston and Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, receiving his certificate in Periodontics and an M.S. in Biomedical Sciences. He then completed his board examinations in Periodontics and became a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. After ten years active duty in the U.S. Air Force, and achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, he separated from the Air Force and opened his private Fairfax dental practice.
He is a member of the Northern Virginia Dental Society, the Virginia Dental Association, The American Dental Association, The American Academy of Periodontology, The Academy of Osseointegration, The Northern Virginia Dental Implant Society, and The Southern Academy of Periodontology.
Dr. Withers has repeatedly been named in the Top Dentists by the Washingtonian Magazine, Checkbook Magazine and Consumer Research Council of America and Northern Virginia Magazine.
Dr. Withers and his wife Mary live nearby his Fairfax dental practice and their two daughters live in New York City.
